Margaret Stevens
As someone who never played ice hockey, my life has pretty much revolved around the sport for the last 15 years.
In high school I could be found traveling New England with my family to cheer on my cousin who played in the EJHL, now known as the USPHL. Then I attended Quinnipaic University where I majored in Communications with a minor in Sports Studies. At Quinnipiac being a hockey fan was a nonnegotiable. Somewhere in my college career I met my husband Colin, who was the goalie for Union College—Goodbye weekends October-April.
After playing professionally for a few seasons, Colin hung up his skates, but knew he wanted to stay in the Hockey industry, so we packed up our lives and moved to the only logical place in the Northeast-Boston. I wasn’t joking when I said my life revolved around Hockey…
In 2022 when the opportunity to purchase a youth hockey organization came up, Colin jumped on it and I haven’t been able to escape the rink since. By day, you can find me working my 9 to 5 in Real Estate & Development and by nights and weekends I am usually at the rink running the scoreboard, scheduling games, packing swag bags, or cheering on our teams. At this point, I think it’s safe to say I just love the rink life!
As someone who has never played the sport, but has been part of the community for a long time, I can honestly say the thing I love about Hockey the most are the people I’ve met along the way. In founding For the Game Foundation, my hope is to provide opportunities to any child who is interested in learning the sport regardless of ability or financial constraints, while also providing resources and training for coaches so that they can best support the next generation of ice hockey players.

Board Member
Lisa Bennett
Lisa is thrilled to do her part as a board member and help grow the game of hockey for all youth players. While having no hockey playing experience herself, Lisa grew up surrounded by ardent fans of the now defunct Hartford Whalers, and joined in their screeching disappointment when the team left Connecticut. She has since found other teams to support, including her alma mater UCONN, as the women's hockey team continues to reach new heights! If you're looking for her, she can frequently be found at a hockey rink somewhere in New England, cheering hard for her daughter's team. Lisa has seen firsthand the benefits of hockey in her own daughter's growth through the years: building confidence, being part of a team, a strong sense of belonging, physical fitness, and most of all, a lot of fun. With the For the Game Foundation, Lisa wants every kid to know that hockey is for everyone and they should all get the chance to play and be part of the team.

Board Member
Michael Rooney
Michael is a dedicated board member of the For the Game Foundation, bringing a lifetime of hockey experience and a deep commitment to making the sport accessible to all. Having grown up on the ice in South Boston and Dorchester, Michael’s passion for hockey began at a young age, and has been a constant presence throughout his life. Now, as a father of three, he is seeing the game through the eyes of his children, who are embarking on their own hockey journeys.
Michael’s firsthand experience with the financial challenges of hockey has fueled his dedication to the foundation. Recognizing the high costs associated with joining hockey programs and purchasing equipment, he understands that not all families have the same advantages. While his children are fortunate to receive hand-me-down gear from family members, he is acutely aware that many families do not have these resources and are forced to pay the high cost for new equipment.
This is why Michael is excited to be part of the For the Game Foundation. His personal and professional experiences align with the foundation's mission to provide affordable ice time and support for young players. Michael’s goal is to help ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of playing hockey.

Through his role on the board, Michael is committed to driving the foundation's initiatives forward, making hockey accessible, and fostering a new generation of players who can share in the excitement of the game.
